Trumpeter acknowledges our industrial advances with our obligations and ability to conserve and protect versus to deplete and make extinct. This project was born out of the pandemic and civil unrest experienced here in Minnesota.
While trying to find solitude in one of the local nature parks, I was made aware of the near extinction of this bird. I was moved to ponder my personal story of survival in an economic downturn, the strong racial divide that seemingly placed persons of color in the cross hairs of law enforcement, and what my reemergence would be if I were to survive the pandemic.
This is a freestanding sculpture that captures the imagination of viewers and resonates the values and ecological intents we all should have. This project will attempt a collaboration with the artist and nature in a symbiotic relationship. My strong desire is to create a visceral connection that conjures up not only aesthetics but an emotional connection with nature, conservancy, and the human spirit.
